Thirstystone quarries their sandstone for the Coasters in the Southwestern United States using the most environmentally conscious methods to extract the sandstone boulders that will be crafted into Thirstystone coasters. Thirstystone Sandstone Coasters are among the finest in the world, due to their incredible absorbing ability. The unusual nature of the porous sandstone literally absorbs messy drips from beverages without leaking onto furniture. They also do not lose their ability to absorb over time. The Coasters come in a set of 4, with each one being 4" in diameter and 3/8" thick. Each has a cork back so as not to scratch surfaces.

5no regrets  Oct 19, 2007 By Anonymous
Coaster soaks up any condensation from glasses, and is heavy enough not to stick to the bottom of glass. Only complaint is that it leaves a sandy residue on my tabletop.

5Amazing  Sep 21, 2009 By SherryMarie
I recently moved from a very dry climate to a humid one. I never saw a need for coasters before as I never had expensive furniture to put my cups on. I couldn't believe how all drinks 'sweat' here. I'd go to other people's houses and they'd wrap the beer bottle in a paper towel before they gave it to me. Enter absorbent stone coasters. These are amazing! They absorb all the condensation dripping off the glasses. They have cork on the bottom so you don't scratch your furniture. And the designs are beautiful. I've bought them for the house and both vehicles. The vehicle ones are slightly smaller than a normal cup holder and tip-up to remove. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is sick of water rings on their tables.

5Great coasters!  Oct 23, 2010 By Graham L. Erbe
These are some of the best coasters that you can buy. The colors are exactly as advertized, brilliant red sandstone. Condensation that drips from your glass will be absorbed into the stone. Well worth the money. The bottoms are padded with cork, but these coasters are heavy. Don't drop them on nice furniture. I am a fan of quality products, and I tend to buy things that last a lifetime rather than things that i will re-buy. Have owned these for a month and my parents have owned them for 10 years. Quality product at a good price.

3Fragile, scratches furniture...  Jan 22, 2011 By K. Halloran "bridgenet"
Breaks easily and will scratch your furniture if someone moves it and tilts a bit. My 3 year old has put some scratches in our table tops until I realized how sharp the edges are. Also was dropped about 6 inches and cracked in half. I still like them but this pattern was a bit boring.

5Beautiful Coasters... But Buy A Couple Of Extra Sets!  Aug 16, 2011 By Brian G.
I love these coasters... They are definitely a nice accent to a dark wood table and they also make an excellent wedding gift for friends...

A few pointers:
* I would not buy these coasters if I had kids because I can completely understand how a child would grab one and use the side to scratch furniture...

* While I wouldn't classify them as overly fragile, it is possible for them to break when dropped onto tile/wood

* It IS possible to over saturate the coaster and for it to leave a ring, but this literally takes SEVERAL HOURS of use and the condensation from multiple glasses (because no one glass can sweat that much condensation). I've only had it happen once during a long party outside in the summer humidity... The coaster just needed to air-dry for a day.

* Wash them when they are brand-new to remove the excess sand/sediment.

* Do yourself a favor and buy a couple of extra sets more than you actually want. This will help to ensure that you get a semi-consistent pattern with the coasters that you DO want, while also ensuring that none of them have the chipping issues (because it is true that some of the coasters have very small chips in the side). Once you have your sets, simply send back the rest for a full refund!
